A Dose of Medicine

I have three cats. All my cats are rescue cats but my oldest one has the most trauma. I found her in a pet store and I fell in love with her. She also fell in love with me and purred in my arms. As I held her, I knew her name: Callie Anna. She's a long-haired black cat that has beautiful tufts of long fur in her ears and on her paws. I love her but her story is a tough one. She watched her mom and siblings be killed and she was left alone and isolated. As a little kitten, she had to care for herself. During this time of fending for herself, she was attacked by a large animal. She was found and rescued by a shelter. Several people took her home only to return because of her issues. She has a medical problem that has caused blindness in one of her eyes. Nobody wanted her. But she fell in love with me and I fell in love with her. She has been a cat with a lot of issues. My daughter’s huge dog terrified her and she spent months hiding behind my bedroom door during the day or running away when I came near. Over the past few weeks, I have been holding her, talking to her, and telling her how I chose her and I love her. She is mine. She will always be mine. She has a home. She is loved. She is appreciated. She is mine. I will love her forever. I tell her about how I found her in the pet store and fell in love with her. I talk about her tough life and mine and she lays in my arms and purrs. Callie has become so much calmer and happier since I began talking to her like this. The sadness is slipping away. She's playing with me and staying in the room where I am. At night, she is also choosing to sleep on my bed. Callie Anna is changing. As I thought about this, I realized that I need to tell myself these same things every day until I can begin to believe these truths. We have had similar experiences, maybe that’s why she chose me. We both need a dose of the same medicine.

What do you need to hear today? Maybe it's time you look in the mirror and tell yourself these things. This positive self-talk and these affirmations can bring healing and wholeness into your life. My prayer for you is that God will help you believe these truths.
